A. Product Description:
Herbal-Clean is an eco-friendly, non-toxic herbal formulation. It is a synergistic blend of natural herbal extracts having active ingredients such as Citronellol, Limonene, d-limolene, Gereniol, Citral, Pinene,Cineol, emulsifier, and adjuvents.
Herbal-Clean is a specifically formulated product for treatment of Municipal Solid Waste, other solid waste, sewage treatment facilities, slaughter house and all other such places where organic residues enter into putrefaction cycle and cause mal-odors.
Herbal-Clean is not a chemical insecticide or fungicide. Unlike toxic chemicals it does not interfere in the natural cycle of organic wastes.
Herbal-Clean is an aqueous emulsion having 10% active ingredient 6% synergists and balance carriers & adjuvents. This is to be diluted in water in the ratio of 1:30 to 1:50 for using as direct spray on the surface of waste or mal-odor generating places including garbage carrying trucks.
B. Mode of Action:
The mist form of a spray doesn’t get last through rapid evaporation as happens in lower molecule products such as perfumes, de-odorants and room fresheners contrary to this Herbal-Clean spray remains in the vicinity of the mal-odors for a longer period due to heavy molecular weight ingredients.
The commonly felt mal-odors are comprised of hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methane, marcaptans and Iso-valeric compounds. These are effectively neutralized through Herbal-Clean
These gasses are not only neutralized but their generation is also prevented for 3-5 days with the spray of Herbal-Clean.
The formulation shows quick results in terms of pathogen control elimination of insect vectors.
The formulation can be used as a preventive Disinfectant in building area and processing facilities.
A. Herbal-Clean Usage in Municipal Solid Waste[MSW] Treatment:
Herbal-Clean is prepared from mixture of herbs and trees having aromatic essential oils. The combination is based on 3 important functions viz:
i.Neutralisation of mal-odors
ii.Destruction of pathogens which cause rotting or putrefaction and
iii.Suppression of housefly activity.
All these three ailments are directly associated with Municipal Solid Waste. The problem is still worst if the msw has protein & fat rich residues from meat, beef, fish, poultry etc.
B. Working Principle:
-
Direct odor neutralization is by breaking down of hydrogen bonding. For example Sulfur coming from fish waste when combined with Hydrogen forms H2S(a rotten egg smell) but when Herbal-Clean is used it takes out Hydrogen molecule enabling Sulfur to combine with “O” and for SO2/SO4 similar situation happens with Nitrogen combining with “H” forms NH3(a pungent smell gas). But when H is avoided – N combines with oxygen and converted to NO3.
-
Most of the bad smells are caused by rot inducing bacteria producing potomines and cadavarines. These substances are produce, it encourages only rot inducing activity to the maximum level thereby restricting the activity of “good” bacteria. Herbal-Clean helps in destruction of these rot inducing bacteria and fungi.
-
However being a natural product it does not exhibit total microbial destruction activity for long time as happen with bleaching powders or chlorinated materials. In other words when municipal authorities use bleaching powders, that disinfects the waste but it does not allow activation of good bacteria which is essential for breakdown of Carbon-Nitrogen fat molecules.
-
In Herbal-Clean we have incorporated activity of fly suppression and repellency. This activity is derived from orange terpenes known as D-limonine. When Municipal authorities use insecticides like DDVP/Nuvan or Chloropyriphos, flies are totally killed. When this happens, breakdown of proteineous materials like meat-fish is inhibited. Fly is a big converter of proteins without disturbing the natural Nitrogen Cycle. By spray of Herbal-Clean flies are confined to waste heap and end their life cycle there only.
A. Pathogen control in MSW, Biosolids & Agri Products :
Following Pathogens are effectively controlled:
-
Escheria coli
-
Coliform
-
Salmonella
-
Pseudomonas aeroginosa
-
Staphylococcus aureus
-
Mycobacterium tuberculosis
-
Fungus spp.
B. Control of Flies:
The rapid multiplication of flies population is major cause of concern in Municipal Solid Waste handling. High protein content waste from processing facilities as well as disposal sites of remnants.
Due to narrow C:N ratio and availability of plenty available nitrogenous material (protein), a pair of fly can multiply and generate approximately 70,000 flies in 5 days. This is a potential danger to the nearby residents as well as the staff and workers engage in handling of wastes.
§ Regular spray of Herbal-Clean brings down the multiplication of flies as well as their ability.
§ Most of the flies remain in the magot stage, which consumes meat, fish etc., these megots ultimately die due to thermophilic temperature(60-650 C) range, thereby contributing sufficient or higher percentage of Nitrogen in the resultant compost.
C. Where Herbal-Clean can be used:
× At Municipal waste collection points, transfer stations
× For repelling flies, mosquitoes and other insects in the clubs, restaurant, horse stable,
× Recycling & Composting sites
× Land fill sites
× Butchery & Slaughtering facilities
× Sewage treatment & Sludge disposal sites
× Poultry, Piggery & Dairy Cattle Industrial Premises
× Hospitals, Shopping malls, Food Courts, Business establishments
× Vegetable, Fish & Meat market
× Food Processing Units
A. Method of Application / Use:
Herbal-Clean is to be used as fine spray over the waste’s using suitable spray mechanisms. Better results are achieved through pressurized spray at 15 PSI. The nozzle must generate mist like particles for quick odor neutralization and to cover larger surface area with lesser quantities of formulation.
The Herbal-Clean solution can also be used through pulsators at strategic points from where the mal-odors are likely to move towards habitation areas. The spray mist will help in neutralisation of such mal-odors.
Dosage:
Usual recommended dose of Herbal-Clean is 50ml diluted in 1 to 2 liters of water to form spray emulsion and apply on 1 MT solid waste/ 2 cubic meter volume of waste or 5 to 10 sq.m surface area where putricible waste is deposited. For better results the finer spray particles are preferred. These dosages are indicative under normal conditions and can be varied 25% minus or plus as per the intensity of the problem.
B. Application on MSW and Sewage Treatment Facilities:
− Direct spray of Herbal-Clean diluted with water in the ratio of 1:50 to 1:400 depending on the intensity of foul smell and incidence of rotting can be made on garbage trucks. This can also be spray on other waste storage places wherever stink/foul smells generates like dust bins, community bin, dump yards & waste processing sites. The frequent mal-odor generating situations such as sewerage treatment facility, milk & food processing units, food malls, fish, meat & Vegetable market can also be treated with Herbal-Clean spray.
− Generally one application is sufficient on fresh waste. If problem of mal-odors
continue then repeat applications on daily basis will be required.
− The garbage carrying trucks should be sprayed while returning back from the sites so that flies, pathogens are not transported back to city and trucks do not stink while on road in the city.
C. Scientific Data Back up:
Various Institutions & user organisations have evaluated the bio-efficacy and toxicological properties of herbal sanitizer-disinfectant cum odor neutraliser in India and Philippines which satisfying results.
